Today is not a ride day, but a day to visit family and friends.
As well as having two nephews in the area, Linda's Godmother
lives here and Chris, Traci, and Cameron Carter, the son,
daughter-in-law, and grandson of one of my best friends also
lives here. We decided to stay another day here and try and
see them.
The day started out with an ominous look as early in the
morning we could see clouds building over the mountains from
the room of our motel (photos 1 & 2). When you
see these big white bumpers so early in the morning, it could
predict thundershowers in the afternoon.
We found Virginia, my wife's Godmother, in her assisted living
home (photo 3), and had a very nice visit catching
up on recent events and reliving old times. As we suspected,
the clouds started filling in and sure enough, it started
raining. We brought Virginia downstairs to see the Goldwing,
which I had parked at the entrance of the home under the overhang.
While waiting for Virginia and Linda to finish their visit
several of the residents and employees came out to comment
on the motorcycle.
One lady, quite up there in years, said she was trying to
sneak a peek because she had met her late husband on a motorcycle.
Her older sister was dating him and he came by their house
and took her for a ride on the bike. Of course, it was a Harley-Davidson
and they had such a good time, that six weeks later, they
were married. She told me they traveled all over the United
States on motorcycles and she loved the things. She never
did tell me what her sister's reaction was to these events
and I didn't want to ask.
One of the supervisors of the place came out and said that
he told his wife when he retired, he wanted to buy a motorcycle
and travel around the country. She said he would do it by
himself. I got the feeling he was conflicted.
We regretfully ended our visit with Linda's Godmother and
returned to the hotel, riding in the rain. All in all, the
rain wasn't that bad, just an annoyance. I did find it humorous
to think that on our layover day, we got rained on.
We were able to connect with Chris Carter, his wife Traci,
and their son Cameron (photo 4), and spent an enjoyable
evening at dinner and time to visit in our motel room to talk
about jobs, future plans, cameras, etc. We have known Chris
since he was born and it was nice to see him and his family.
Chris has done some nice work creating videos and I was interested
in how he did it since I would like to do some videos in the
future.
Tomorrow, we head down to Bryce Canyon and I'm looking forward
to seeing some more of Utah's beautiful scenery and visiting
with Linda's sister and brother-in-law, Sandy & Rod Hurlbert,
who are volunteering as camp hosts at the National Park.
